A Bohemian Christmas
FRIDAY DECEMBER 2, 2016 | 7:30pm
SATURDAY DECEMBER 3, 2016 | 7:30pm
Cathedral of Saint Michael and All Angels | 608 Sutherland Avenue | Kelowna BC
Thank you to those of you who were able to join us for our Bohemian Christmas celebration. It was an exciting start to a big season for Opera Kelowna. You were all extremely gracious hosts to our gorgeous guest singers from Vancouver, tenor Sunny Shams and soprano Shadan Saul, who delivered unforgettable performances. We were thrilled to see a full house both nights and so many members of our audience interested in becoming involved with our chorus and with the opera more generally.
We very much hope to see many of you again soon! As you may know, tickets for La bohème are now on sale through Kelowna Tickets. This production will take place on August 18 and 19, 2017, at the Kelowna Community Theatre.

Special Guest Artists
Sunny Shams, tenor
Coming from musical roots as a jazz singer and pianist, Sunny Shams, from Sidney BC, began studying opera in 2006 at the Victoria Conservatory of Music. In 2007, he joined the UBC Opera Program, and has performed roles in Die Fledermaus, Don Giovanni and La bohème. He has also sung with the Victoria and Vancouver Symphonies.
“The holiday season is a time of celebration; I could not be happier to celebrate alongside the woman I love and in a company that is young, innovative and full of spirit. Opera Kelowna and the holiday season is a perfect pairing.”
– Sunny Shams
Shadan Saul, soprano
Possessing a warm, rich and sizeable voice, Shadan Saul has sung the roles of Mimi in La bohème, Rusalka, and the title role in the Merry Widow. Ms. Saul’s stage presence has taken her to many stages and concerts around the world, including the VSO and the Czech Civic Orchestra. Praised for her sound, “reminiscent of the golden age of opera and the most famous sopranos” (Richard Gaddes, MONC 2014), Ms. Saul has had the honour of studying under some of the best singers and teachers of our time, including: Manuela Agueda, Miralla Ferni, Ruth Falcon, Virginia Zeani, Heather Thomson, Montserrat Caballe and tenor Melvyn Poll. Shadan looks forward to making her debut with Opera Kelowna.
“As a performer it’s not always possible to sing with the person you love… This concert for me is not only an opportunity to debut with a wonderful, fresh and young company like Opera Kelowna, but it is a chance to make magic with Sunny Shams and all in the splendor of the perfect winter wonderland.”
