Steeve Michaud

Known for his bright and warm tone, his remarkable musicality and his charisma on stage ever since his operatic debut in La Traviata with l’Opéra de Montréal, tenor Steeve Michaud has added many roles to his repertoire for which he has received critical acclaim such as: Hoffman, Don José, Werther, Romeo, Rodolfo, Il Duca, MacDuff, Pinkerton, Caravadossi and Calaf to named a few.

Praised as a “…very beautiful lirico-spinto voice, warm, flexible, with vibrant high notes” and as “ a voice as impressive as his acting skills, expressive, powerful, true and nuanced”; Previously this season, Steeve was performing the Duke of Mantova in Rigoletto at the Opera de Québec and was soloist with the Montréal Philharmonic Society in Kodaly’s Te Deum and Rossini’s Stabat Mater before launching his first album titled Portrait in April 2018.

Upcoming performances include his debut as Samson in Samson et Dalila at Opéra de Rimouski and his wagnerian début performing Froh in Das Rheingold for the Opera of Montréal in October 2018.

Over the last years, Steeve has worked with many opera houses and symphonic orchestras in Canada, including l’Opéra de Québec, Opéra de Montréal, Calgary Opera, Hamilton Opera, Opera Ontario, Ottawa Pellegrini Opera, Altamura Opera Festival (US), Orchestre Symphonique de Montréal, Orchestre Métropolitain, Montréal Philharmonic Society, Gatineau Symphony, New World Philharmonic Society, Sinfonia of Lanaudière.

Steeve also posesses in his repertoire the essential concert masterworks such as Handel’s Messiah, Mozart’s and Verdi’s Requiem, Beethoven’s 9th Symphony, Missa solemnis, Christus am Ölberge Oratorio, Rossini’s Stabat Mater, Puccini’s Messa di Gloria, Dubois’s oratorio Le Paradis perdu and the Seven Words of Christ.

Earlier this season, Steeve was singing Caravadossiin Puccini’s Tosca for Ottawa’s Pellegrini Opera, Roxanne’s Requiem by modern composer Michel Massé, a series of “Italy’s Memories” recitals, Beethoven’s Mass in C major, Mozart’s Requiem, an opera concert gala for Opéra de Rimouski and a bel canto recital in Teatro La Fenice in Osimo, Italy.

Steeve has had the privilege to work with renowned artists such as Yannick-Nézet Séguin, Charles Dutoit, Anton Coppola, Ben Heppner, Richard Margison, Thomas Muraco, Joan Dorneman, Gildo Di Nunzio, William Hicks, Denise Massé and Pierre Vallet. He his a 2015 awardee of Les Jeunesses Musicales du Canada Foundation and other honorable recognitions, grants and awards from recognized organizations such as the Caruso International Voice Competition and the Puccini International Voice Competition.

A former member of Montréal Opera YAP, L’Atelier Lyrique, participant of the International Vocal Arts Institute (IVAI), LaRoche d’Hys Academy, Nice International Summer Academy, Steeve holds a Master Degree in Vocal Performance from Université de Montréal. He currently maintains his instrument with David L. Jones in New York and Raphaël Siroski in Paris and with rewknown coaches Gildo Di Nunzio and Denise Massé from the Metropolitan Opera and the Julliard School of Music as well as Thomas Muraco from Manhattan School of Music, Esther Gonthier from Opera de Monrtéal, Emmanuel Olivier from Théâtre des Champs-Elysées and Elizabeth Cooper in Paris.
