As part of our Young Artists Vocal Education Program, Opera Kelowna is offering a Summer Intensive Training Program. This is a comprehensive program that provides instruction in the creative process, accompaniment and conducting, performance, movement and acting, Alexander Technique, languages and diction, breath work and vocal interpretation, culminating in a staged opera performance with costumes, sets and orchestra at the Kelowna Community Theatre.
The Summer Intensive Training Program is part of Opera Kelowna’s Young Artist Vocal Education Programs, which focus on providing guidance and training for promising young artists who are preparing to pursue a vocal career and careers in piano accompaniment and vocal coaching through University and/or Conservatory enrolment. This program is primarily focused on pupils already enrolled in University or Conservatory education. Some exceptions may apply.
The artists in the Summer Intensive Training Program will participate in individual and class education with guidance from knowledgeable faculty based on their needs. Each vocal artist who attends the program will focus on the artistic process with vocal coaching, Alexander Technique, language diction coaching, scene and character study by an acting coach.
This program is ideal for singers and pianists who wish to focus on further developing their technique while simultaneously working on their performance skills. The program is designed to bring exceptional talent and internationally recognized artists as guest teachers to the Okanagan, providing daily mini-master classes and exposing our students to instructors they would never have the opportunity of seeing otherwise.
Vocal Artists (maximum 20) will receive private vocal coaching with both coach and conductor, Alexander Technique Classes, Viewpoints Movement Classes, scene rehearsals, Master Classes, private rehearsals with provided pianists and performance opportunities at Artistic Director’s Reception, Opera in the Park culminating in performances of Bizet’s Carmen at the Kelowna Community Theatre with full costumes, designed sets, and orchestra. Also all additional components not described above.
The program is designed to bring talented and internationally recognized artists as guest teachers to the Okanagan, providing daily master classes, Alexander Technique, vocal coaching, diction and scene study. Our students are exposed to a very high caliber of instruction and a number of performance opportunities with the program culminating in a staged opera performance with costumes, sets and orchestra at the Kelowna Community Theatre. The Summer Intensive Training Program will be held in Kelowna, British Columbia. Kelowna has a population of more than 117,312 and it is the largest city in British Columbia’s Okanagan Valley. Bordering Okanagan Lake, Kelowna is well known for its hot summers and temperate winters.

Situated on the eastern shore of Okanagan Lake mid-way between Penticton in the south and Vernon in the north, Kelowna residents and tourists alike find the lake offers wonderful opportunities for boating, swimming or fishing. The nearby mountains attract hikers, skiers and outdoor enthusiasts of all descriptions.

The fee for the program is $1,200.00.
Please note that there is a $20 registration fee and a $20 fee for an audition accompanist, if needed for all in-person Vancouver and Kelowna auditions.
