Opera Kelowna stages a wide range of opera experiences for over 4000 members of Okanagan community every year.
We are seeking leaders with diverse experiences and skillsets to join our board! As a board director with Opera Kelowna you will:
- Get behind-the-scenes access to the dramatic, diverse, and often hilarious world of opera
- Help build a bright future for the growing city of Kelowna
- Engage with passionate arts supporters from a variety of sectors
We are seeking 2 Board members and Committee volunteers.
Opera Kelowna is a non-profit society and registered charity that delivers three pillars of opera programming annually for the Okanagan Community: productions, community engagement, and education initiatives.
Our Board of Directors comprises local leaders from the nonprofit and for-profit sector who are dedicated to making life in the Okanagan even better through events, performances, training, and opportunities in the arts. The company is committed to creating opportunities for anyone who is interested, regardless of age, background, or economic capacity.
Our board members champion the importance of exceptional leadership and believe that every organization needs a strong and effective board to fully realize its potential for good. In addition to the standard roles and responsibilities of a board member, our board members are active advocates and ambassadors for the organization throughout their networks and across our community.

Serving on our Board of Directors is an extraordinary opportunity for an individual who is passionate about strengthening leadership and governance in the non-profit sector, and in promoting a vibrant future for the performing arts in our community.
Board members are expected to attend monthly board meetings (one hour in length), and to read board materials in advance of board meetings and to come prepared to ask questions and participate in discussions.
Board members serve on one committee of the board and actively participate in committee work. Current committees include:
- Fund Development
- Grant research and applications
- Events
- Governance and Finance
Annual financial contributions are expected.
If a director is not able to meet the typical annual requirement, alternatives can be crafted in consultation with the Board Chair. Board terms last for two years.
Skills and Expertise
Familiarity with the performing arts sector and opera in particular is welcome, but not required! We are currently seeking diverse leaders to join a dynamic and energetic group, with a particular focus on the following skills:
- Advocacy
- Human Resources & Leadership
- Event planning and strategy
- Marketing
- Accounting
