Chantal Lambert

Chantal Lambert, soprano, is a graduate of the Conservatoire de musique de Montréal and the Atelier lyrique of the Opéra de Montréal. From 1990 to 2023, she served as Director of the Atelier lyrique while maintaining an active performing career. A passionate advocate for the transmission of operatic art, she has devoted much of her career to mentoring and developing emerging artists.

In 2016, she was inducted into the Canadian Opera Hall of Fame. In 2025, she received a Ruby Award from Opera Canada in recognition of her outstanding contribution to the advancement of opera in Canada. She is also the author of  the Petit lexique de l’Opéra (The Little Opera Lexicon), published by Éditions universitaires européennes.

Since 2020, she has been involved in the creation of Albertine en cinq temps – The Opera, based on the play by Michel Tremblay with music by Catherine Major. As a member of the Collectif de la Lune Rouge, she serves as co-librettist and performs the role of Albertine at age seventy.

In November 2026, she will create the role of Old Orpheus (Vieille-Orphée) in the world premiere of Les dévots, an opera by Christophe Lamarche-Ledoux with a libretto by Félix-Antoine Boutin, presented at Théâtre Espace Libre.
