Marie Civitarese

About

Marie Civitarese, soprano, was born and raised in Trail, BC. She received a Bachelor of Music from the award winning Voice and Opera Performance program at SUNY Purchase College in 2015. Whilst at Purchase College, Marie studied years of language, diction, and art song literature, as well as performed leading roles in Purchase Opera’s productions. At the University of British Columbia, Marie studied with Marisa Gaetanne while earning her Master of Music in Opera Performance, graduating in 2017. Last summer she attended the Mozarteum International Summer Academy on scholarship where she studied German lieder with Wolfgang Holzmair and Mozart arias with Helen Donath.

Operatic roles performed include Susanna (Le nozze di Figaro), Tytania (A Midsummer Night’s Dream), Gretel and the Dew Fairy (Hänsel und Gretel), Damon (Acis and Galatea), Ciboletta (Eine Nacht in Venedig), and Foreign Woman (The Consul). Marie appeared as Papagena in Opera Kelowna’s 2016 production of Die Zauberflöte, and is very excited to return as Frasquita in Carmen this summer.

Concert experience includes soloist performances with the Purchase College Chorus (Fauré Requiem, Poulenc’s Messe en Sol Majeur), the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra (A Traditional Christmas Concert Series), and performed in an orchestral concert series in the Czech Republic and Germany in 2016. Marie has been awarded by the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions (Western Canada Region), the Strauss/Hecht Foundation, the Schuyler Foundation for Career Bridges, the Young Singers Foundation, as well as the British Columbia Arts Council. Upcoming engagements include performing as a finalist in the Jacqueline Desmarais Foundation competition, as a guest artist at Confederation Park Elementary School in a new children’s opera, Kinderzug, and will be joining the Emerging Artist Program at Calgary Opera for the 2018-19 season.
