About

Chinese-Canadian soprano Emma Jang holds her MMus in Opera Performance, having completed her degree at the University of British Columbia. Highlights with UBC Opera include her European debut as Despina (Così fan tutte), Vixen (Přihody Lišky Bystroušky), Gretel (Hansel and Gretel), Gianetta (The Gondoliers), and Corinna (Il viaggio a Reims), amongst others.

Hailed as “a voice like a crystal clear jewel,” Emma has also performed in collaboration with local companies such as Opera Unbound (The Fox), City Opera Vancouver (Song from the Uproar), and Burnaby Lyric Opera, as well as understudying the role of Dukdukdiya for Vancouver Opera’s touring production of The Flight of the Hummingbird. She has been a featured soloist with the Kamloops Symphony Orchestra (Brahms Requiem), the Vancouver Metropolitan Orchestra, and the North Czech Philharmonic.

Emma recently made her debut in Asia, completing a tour of the Mandarin language opera Thunderstorm as the lead character Fan Yi. The tour spanned nine cities in China, ranging from Harbin to Guangzhou, and spanned 11 performances. She is thrilled to be working with Opera Kelowna again as a graduate of last year’s VOSI program!
