When I left the Kelowna Community Theatre after the performance I was struck by how much our local opera company punches well above its weight and, in so doing, enriches our local community.
Thank you for supporting this event! As an amateur opera singer and lover of the arts, I think this event is fantastic for introducing people to opera and for lovers like myself to enjoy in such a unique setting.
This program and the people who run it are truly one of a kind and I feel so fortunate to have been able to take part in a program that so seamlessly blends professional experience with in-depth training.
Everything felt like a breeze and easier when I was having lessons with Monica Huisman.
I chose to participate because it offered me numerous opportunities to work with exceptional voice teachers and faculty, as well as to perform in the mainstage production alongside professional singers.
VOSI provided not only technical coaching but also valuable insights into the industry as a whole.
The excitement I felt stepping back into Despina’s shoes was amplified by the knowledge that it was a testament to the unwavering commitment of all those involved and the resilience of the Kelowna community…. the healing power of art and the strength of community shone brighter than ever.”
When we learned that Opera Kelowna had worked day and night to make Così fan tutte possible once again the emotions were overwhelming. It was with sheer will power, dedication, imagination, co-ordination and excruciating hard work through very long days that the company was able to make this happen and for this all of the cast, crew and musicians are truly grateful.
When putting together the programme, I wanted it to include songs that really made my heart beat a little faster. Perri Lo and I are performing a variety of selections that range from the familiar Puccini and Andrew Lloyd Webber to Poulenc and Strauss, all of which are fuelled by passion, lust and love.
I really enjoyed the music production, and the actors were phenomenal in their acting and singing. The fact that this was a bilingual production was a pleasant surprise!
